I recently started preparing for an upcoming project by doing a personal refresher on colors that captivate me, I walked the showrooms picking samples that spoke to me, without thinking of how they would be used. In the end I assembled a large pile on my table and began creating what essentially became a giant mood board of color schemes. I had my trusty creams and beige’s, my elegant black and cream combinations, and the rest was made up of happy yellows and mellow blues.
Color is such a personal experience - I often tell clients to go with their gut and pick a color that gives them an instant happy reaction..because if they’re going to be living with a color, they need to be sure it puts a smile on their face.
Here are my current go-to color combinations that I’m obsessing over and will probably be incorporating in a project or two, and I hope you’ll be inspired as well!
Emerald & Saffron
This color combination is an updated classic. Green and yellow are next to each other on the color wheel, so they have a natural affinity towards one another. Muted and slightly darker, a dark emerald can come off as a neutral, and the yellow saffron is closer to gold than yellow, giving a nice pop of color without being too flashy. These colors can live in almost any room, use them on your throws, pillows, draperies and accent chairs.
Chartreuse & Blue Smoke Color Scheme
This is a fresh color combination for those of you who love crisp whites with some pops of color. The smoky light blue pairs well with a chartreuse, and will coordinate well with polished nickel hardware. Use lots of texture with this color scheme and keep the minimal for a fresh and airy feeling.
Turquoise & Terracotta Color Scheme
Unexpected and exciting, terracotta sings next to turquoise. It’s like earth and water coming together for a party. I’m loving this marbelized wallpaper from Meranda paper, that beautifully captures the essence of this gorgeous color scheme.
